FEMA APPLICATION ASSISTANCE IN LA PORTE COUNTY!

FEMA and IDHS will be in La Porte County on Thursday (09-03-26) and Friday (09-04-26) to help residents apply for assistance with uninsured or underinsured losses caused by the storms on August 11.

Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Krueger Memorial Hall, located at 801 Liberty Trail, Michigan City, IN 46360, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Friday, September 4, 2026 at the La Porte County Fairgrounds Community Building, located at 2581 IN-2, La Porte, IN 46350, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Alternatively, residents may apply online with FEMA at disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362, 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

If you have homeowners, renters, or flood insurance, file a claim before applying for FEMA assistance. FEMA cannot duplicate benefits for losses covered by insurance. If your policy does not cover all your disaster expenses, you may be eligible for federal assistance.

You will need to bring the following information: your contact information, your social security number, a general list of damages and losses, annual household income, banking information if you choose direct deposit, and, if insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name.

Saturday, September 5, is jam-packed with fandom-favorite activities, workshops, games and crafts at LibraryCon. Return to the Main Library later that evening--this time in the Reading Wi-Fi Garden--for a classic fandom film to kick off the unofficial start to spooky season!

Also, on 9-25 (9…to…5) we’ll have some Dolly Parton giveaways and if you bring a gently used kids book in for donation, you’ll get entered into a raffle for a Dolly Parton Autographed Photo with Certificate of authenticity! (one entry per book = donate as many books that qualify as you like, we are capping entries to the drawing at 10)
