🎬 Movies in the Park is back this summer with a few new twists! 🍿

We’re excited to share our upcoming Movies in the Park series, and this year we’re doing things a little differently. Along with free outdoor movies, we’re building in more to do before the screen lights up.

This summer, you can expect things like:
β€’ A School’s Out kickoff night with recess games and info about our Summer Playground Program
β€’ A camp fair to help families plan for summer
β€’ A luau‑themed movie night on Stone Lake Beach
β€’ A mix of family nights and a teen/adult feature
β€’ Community partners, activities and extras that fit each movie

πŸ“… Save the dates:
β€’ June 5 – Recess: School’s Out!
β€’ June 26 – Lilo & Stitch
β€’ June 30 – Hamilton (PG‑13)
β€’ July 31 – Zootopia 2

Event pages are already live, with locations and details for each night. We’ll keep updating them as activities and partners are finalized.

As always, Movies in the Park is free to attend. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and make a night of itβ€”we can’t wait to spend summer evenings with you in our parks.

🌨WINTER WEATHER AHEAD🌨

We have a full weekend of harsh winter weather ahead of us, with extreme cold conditions, lake effect snow and system snow all in the forecast. Here's a few things to keep in mind:

❄ Our street crews will be out and will do their best to keep the roadways clear, but PLEASE exercise extreme caution. Slow down and allow extra time if traveling. Clean off snow-covered vehicles to help improve visibility of the cars behind/around you.
❄ WM's Friday trash pick-up will still take place. To speed things up, they may send an extra driver; in that case, pick-up may happen earlier that usual. To be safe, WM recommends putting cans out TONIGHT.
❄ Dress warmly and limit time outside as much as possible. At the temps/wind chills projected, frostbite can occur in about 15 minutes. Stay indoors if you can!
❄ Be smart with your space heaters! Never leave them on when leaving the room/going to bed and only plug them directly into a wall outlet (not an extension cord). NEVER use an oven to heat your home.
❄Check in on elderly neighbors and loved ones who may need assistance.

Warming centers will be open for those needing a place to get in out of the cold:

❄️ La Porte City Hall (801 Michigan Ave): Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
❄️ La Porte Fire Station #3 (710 Daytona St): 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. all weekend (Please note: the station will be evacuated in the event of a fire call)
❄️ LP County Public Library (904 Indiana Ave): Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
❄️ Center Township Trustee’s Office (1108 W SR 2): Will have additional hours for this weekend -- open early and will stay open as late as needed. Call 219-851-8739 for more info.
❄️ Nest La Porte (809 Washington St): Overnight all weekend from 5 p.m. through 9 a.m., plus open all day Sunday through Monday morning.

Our team will be available to help those in need! Call Mayor Dermody’s cell at 219-363-7293 for non-emergencies and of course, call 911 for all emergency situations!

We'll provide updates as needed, so be sure to follow along this weekend. Stay warm, stay safe, and watch out for one another!
