This week the Rio Grande River is carrying a good share of the rain that hit Doña Ana County: 1 to 2 inches in Las Cruces, and more than 7 inches this month in parts of the Jornada, which broke a September record that had stood since 1941.

It's a beautiful thing to see, but it came at a cost for our neighbors up the valley. About 3,500 people in Hatch, Garfield, Rincon and Salem were evacuated on Tuesday, and recovery is just getting started.

To help: has opened the Greatest Needs Impact Fund for Doña Ana County. It covers both immediate needs and long-term recovery for the people, animals and places affected. They're working with the county's Office of Emergency Management and to get resources where they're needed.

If your home, business or vehicle was damaged in North Doña Ana County, fill out the county's damage assessment form at donaana.gov/DamageAssessment. Give as much detail as you can, since it helps the county document the full impact.
