Highway 70 Roadblock on Thursday, Sept. 9

On Thursday, Sept. 9 Highway 70 is scheduled to be blocked at 10:45a.m. for approximately 1 hour and should be lifted at 11:45a.m. This block will be located at Blue Block (2 miles East of the access road - Mile Marker 172) and at Yellow Block (located at the WSNP Headquarters). San Augustin Pass and LC Gate are not affected. Nike Ave will be affected for this block.

Monday August 9, 2021, Highway 70 is scheduled to be blocked two times. The first block will be at 5:40 a.m. and the second block will be at 7:30 a.m. Each block will last approximately one hour. These blocks will be located at "RED BLOCK" (top of San Augustin Pass /mile marker 164) and at "YELLOW BLOCK" (White Sands National Park /mile marker 200). The Las Cruces Gate, Owen Road and Nike Avenue will also be affected.

On Tuesday, August 3, 2021, Highway 70 is scheduled to be blocked three times. These blocks will be at 3:50 a.m., 5:50 a.m. and 7:50 a.m. for approximately one hour each. All blocks will be located at Red Block, mile marker 164 (top of San Augustin Pass), and Yellow Block, mile marker 200 (White Sands National Park). Nike Ave, LC Gate and Owen Road will also be affected by this block.

Be advised, all blocks are subject to change without notice.

Guidance in case of medical emergencies during a roadblock or gate closure:
If someone is stopped during a roadblock or a gate closure and feel they are experiencing a medical emergency, they should drive to the front of the roadblock or to the gate and tell the on-site police officer or gate guard they are having a medical emergency. The police officer or gate guard will then contact the Range Control Office to determine how to proceed from there.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to road conditions and based on the current situation WSMR personnel will report for duty at their normal scheduled times for the July 13 duty day. Alamogordo residents should enter through the Oro Grande Gate. El Paso and Las Cruces residents should enter through the El Paso Gate. Max telework is encouraged, contact your supervisor for authorization.

The only available gates open to enter White Sands Missile Range are the El Paso gate and the Oro Grande gate. All other gates are closed due to road conditions.

White Sands Missile Range will open Trinity Site to the public after a brief pause in activities due to COVID-19 on Oct. 2. Trinity Site is where the world’s first atomic bomb was tested at 5:29:45 a.m. Mountain War Time July 1945
