🚧 New I-25 ramps at Engler Road? This project may be getting closer.

NMDOT opened construction bids for the planned I-25/Engler Road interchange in August—roughly nine months earlier than a previous NMDOT schedule showed.

Then we found something else.

Just 13 days after the bids were opened, a City of Las Cruces record appeared for property at 1200 Engler describing work to prepare the site as a “construction yard for the NMDOT on-off ramps at Engler Road.”

That certainly caught our attention.

We dug into the public records to look at what is planned, how close construction could be, and what a new I-25 access point might eventually mean for northeast Las Cruces—including traffic, future development, commercial growth and nearby neighborhoods.

There is still no official construction start date, but there is a lot more happening with this project than many Las Cruces residents may realize.

☕🍩 A new Dunkin may be getting closer to construction in northeast Las Cruces.

While reviewing City of Las Cruces building permits, we found a commercial permit for a new Dunkin at 4190 Northrise Drive, on the southwest corner of Sonoma Ranch Boulevard and Northrise Drive.

The property is still vacant dirt, but the permit is now listed as “Ready to Issue” and specifically calls for a new building with a drive-thru lane.

So while there’s nothing to see from the road yet, quite a bit has apparently been happening behind the scenes.

We took a closer look at the permit, the proposed location, traffic in the area, and why so much commercial development is suddenly showing up along the Sonoma Ranch corridor.
