🚗🚧: A major construction project is about to begin on the Las Vegas Strip. It includes repaving Las Vegas Boulevard, replacing a main water line and upgrades to traffic signals and street light poles. The work is expected to begin on the north end of the Strip early Friday. It was supposed to begin today but has been pushed back because of the weather.
While the project will prompt significant closures and traffic changes eventually, the first impacts will be relatively minor nighttime lane closures. One or two lanes on both sides of Las Vegas Boulevard between Resorts World Drive and Spring Mountain Road will be closed from 12:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday and Friday, Nov. 22; and again next week from Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 25-27, from 12:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. each day. (No lanes are expected to be closed in this area outside of those hours.)
These lane closures are part of a project that will affect Las Vegas Boulevard from Spring Mountain to Sahara Avenue through early 2021. During this time, drivers should expect lane closures and lane shifts in the area, with the most significant traffic impacts coming during the overnight hours.
Information about the project and related traffic impacts will be available at www.ResortCorridor.com. Residents may also go to the website to sign up to receive email updates.
This project is the first of seven phases of construction that will each focus on a section of Las Vegas Boulevard between Sahara and the 215 Beltway. Each phase will include the water line replacement, new pavement, intersection modifications to improve pedestrian crossings, upgrades to traffic signal and street lighting systems with smart poles and enhanced median landscaping with LED lighting. Work on all of the phases is expected to take more than five years to complete. Generally speaking, significant lane closures and traffic disruptions will occur on weekdays between 12:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. There will also be times when one lane is closed in each direction during the rest of the day.
