Living with hard water is challenging. It can make your skin and hair flakey, stain sinks and tubs, and cause low water pressure because of buildup in the pipes.

The best way to handle this is with a water softener. Immediately upon installation, homeowners notice an improvement in water quality. The water pressure will be stronger, the dishes will be cleaner, and the clothes will be softer and brighter.

Stop living with hard water! Contact us to learn more about water softening systems and what we could install for you. Send us a message on Facebook or on our website at:

This is one of the most common defects that I see as a home inspector, and it is very dangerous.

What you see in the picture is called Double Lugging, which is when two wires are placed under the same screw on a circuit breaker. Handymen and DIY folks are most guilty of this - people who know the basics of electrical wiring, but don't understand safety codes. Licensed electricians /do not/ do this!

Because the wires are stacked, one will always be looser than the other. Loose wires carrying electrical current will sometimes "arc" - superheating the air between them - one of the leading causes of house fires.

If you suspect your house was wired by a handyman, reach out to us today. There are a few solutions, and none of them will break your bank. You can send a message here, or use the contact form on our website:

Clogged evaporator coils have caused some serious moisture issues inside of this attic. The owner could have prevented this disaster by giving the coils a regular cleaning, but many folks don't have this maintenance task on their radar.

This issue is often an invisible one, so the layman cannot tell there is anything wrong until it's too late. This is why it is important to consult with an experienced home inspector routinely, not only when you're buying or selling a home.

Let us be there for you. Contact us with a facebook message or use the contact form on our website:

Why do roof tiles slip?

Maintenance of the roof is a considerable responsibility of home ownership.. Often as a result of high winds, earthquakes, or storms, your roof tiles can shift out of place. The person who installed this drain pipe was completely clueless. You might be surprised to find out how many times we have stumbled across this issue. Too many DIYers attempt what they assume to be an easy fix and actually put their house into a deeper level of disrepair. This drain will inevitably leak, grow mold, and be endlessly slow.

Leave the plumbing to the experts. If this problem (or worse) exists in your home, give us a call today for a referral to repair it, or leave a message on our contact form at:

If you have a window in your home that has a hole in it, you are throwing money away on heating/cooling bills. This drastically decreases the effectiveness of your insulation making your home more susceptible to temperature changes.

The window pictured here would never pass our home inspection. Make sure you leave no stone unturned when you are buying a home, and as a seller, take responsibility for deep faults in your domicile like holes. This repair is not very costly, but it makes a world of difference.

If you need an experienced home inspector, give us a call today using our website, or contact us right here on Facebook.

If your wall has a hole in it, is it a wall?

"WALL - /wôl/ - a continuous vertical brick or stone structure that encloses or divides an area of land."

Merriam Webster says NO! You can be sure outside elements are creeping into the domicile pictured here. Without repair, pests have an open gateway for entry and water damage is imminent. The cheap panel screwed on top of this hole does not count as a repair. It isn't sealed properly, it's easily removable, and it could stain the exterior.

Do not buy a home with holes in it, and do not leave holes lingering in your walls. If your external walls are in disrepair, get in touch with an experienced home inspector to figure out what other damage needs to be assessed to make your home safe.

We have seen this issue many times and know what to look for. You are not alone! But don't sit on this one for long - a hole in an external wall is a serious issue that needs attention today to avoid paying thousands of dollars in future repairs. Retaining walls need to be built within safety guidelines. If they are above 48 inches, a guardrail that is 42 inches in height must be installed atop them. The retaining wall pictured here is built against code and is considered unsafe - not only will it not pass a home inspection, it has the potential to cause injury on this property, leaving the owner liable for serious expenses.

If you'd like to build a wall near your home, or if you already own a retaining wall and are considering adding some height to it, call a dedicated home inspector to make an analysis of your addition. An experienced assessor can help keep people safe on your property and ensure that everything is up to code.
