One of my favorite things about living in Las Vegas is how quickly you can completely change scenery. In less than an hour, we went from desert heat to cool mountain air, wild horses, open meadows, and one of the prettiest spots in Nevada.
A lot of people only picture casinos and the Strip when they think of Vegas… but locals know there’s a whole different side to living here.
If you’re looking for ways to escape the summer heat, here are a few local favorites:
• Mount Charleston — Book a weekend at the lodge, unplug for a couple days, and check out popular hikes like Cathedral Rock Trail. It honestly doesn’t even feel like Vegas up there.
• Lee Canyon — Make sure to stop by the meadows for a picnic with the family. If you time it right, the wild horses are usually out earlier in the morning or around sunset.
• Cold Creek — There’s a fun little pond to check out, and for the more adventurous off-road crowd, Wheeler Pass is always a good time crossing through the mountains toward Pahrump and back.
Honestly, this is the version of Vegas I wish more people got to see.
