I’ve been licensed as a real estate broker in both Washington and Nevada since 2008, so this article definitely caught my attention.

Over the years, I’ve watched more individuals, families, entrepreneurs, and business owners make the move from the Pacific Northwest to Southern Nevada. Every client’s reasons are different, but the broader trend has been hard to ignore.

The relocation of Zillow co-founder Rich Barton is simply the latest example of how Las Vegas continues to attract talent, investment, and new opportunities.

Having worked in both markets for nearly two decades, it’s been fascinating to watch these migration patterns shape housing demand, business growth, and the overall economy in both states.

I’ve called Las Vegas home since 2003, and I began my real estate career as the financial crisis unfolded in 2008—witnessing firsthand how our city has grown and evolved. Distressed sales were widespread, lending tightened significantly, and cash buyers quickly became a dominant presence in the market. It was a difficult period, and many people ultimately left the industry and valley altogether.

Yet even in those uncertain times, seeds of growth 🌱 were being planted. Over time, our valley began attracting newcomers from neighboring states and higher-cost markets, drawn by Nevada’s business-friendly environment and a more diversified economy beyond gaming and hospitality. Residential and commercial development followed, fueled by relocation, entrepreneurship, and long-term confidence in Southern Nevada.

Today, the market continues to show resilience. While median prices have climbed since the crash, they have softened recently, offering some flexibility for buyers in the right situations. Through it all, Las Vegas and Henderson have adapted, proving what makes this community so unique.

Having experienced nearly two decades of growth, shifts, and cycles here, I remain committed to helping both locals and newcomers navigate the market with clarity and perspective.
