🏡 JUST CLOSED? Here’s your new-home checklist! ✨
Getting the keys is exciting, but there are a few important things to take care of before you fully settle in. Save this post so you know exactly what to tackle first! 📝🔑
✨ Before closing:
Set up your electric, gas, water, sewer, trash, and internet so everything is ready when you move in.
🔑 On closing day:
• Rekey or change all exterior locks
• Test every smoke and carbon monoxide detector
• Take photos of the home’s condition for your records
🏠 Within the first 24 hours:
• Locate and label your main water shut-off
• Find your gas shut-off and know how to use it in an emergency
• Locate your electrical panel and label any missing breakers
🧰 Before moving furniture in:
• Buy at least one fire extinguisher, especially for the kitchen
• Replace HVAC/furnace filters
• Deep clean while the house is still empty
• Paint before bringing in furniture—it’s SO much easier! 🎨
• Seal grout or countertops if needed
📬 During your first week:
Forward your mail, update your address on important accounts and documents, organize your appliance manuals and warranties, and make a list of future repairs. Don’t feel like you have to tackle everything at once! 🤍
And don’t forget to introduce yourself to your new neighbors and locate your GFCI outlets, water heater, and sump pump (if you have one). 👋🏡
