π‘ JUST CLOSED? Hereβs your new-home checklist! β¨
Getting the keys is exciting, but there are a few important things to take care of before you fully settle in. Save this post so you know exactly what to tackle first! ππ
β¨ Before closing:
Set up your electric, gas, water, sewer, trash, and internet so everything is ready when you move in.
π On closing day:
β’ Rekey or change all exterior locks
β’ Test every smoke and carbon monoxide detector
β’ Take photos of the homeβs condition for your records
π Within the first 24 hours:
β’ Locate and label your main water shut-off
β’ Find your gas shut-off and know how to use it in an emergency
β’ Locate your electrical panel and label any missing breakers
π§° Before moving furniture in:
β’ Buy at least one fire extinguisher, especially for the kitchen
β’ Replace HVAC/furnace filters
β’ Deep clean while the house is still empty
β’ Paint before bringing in furnitureβitβs SO much easier! π¨
β’ Seal grout or countertops if needed
π¬ During your first week:
Forward your mail, update your address on important accounts and documents, organize your appliance manuals and warranties, and make a list of future repairs. Donβt feel like you have to tackle everything at once! π€
And donβt forget to introduce yourself to your new neighbors and locate your GFCI outlets, water heater, and sump pump (if you have one). ππ‘
