“Date the rate, marry the house.” You’ve probably heard that advice from plenty of agents. But buying a home deserves more than a catchy phrase.
If you’re planning to buy in the next year, rates could be higher (or hopefully lower) when you’re ready. Understanding how that affects your monthly payment and price range can help you prepare and build some breathing room into your budget.
When you do buy, make sure the payment works for you without counting on a future refinance. A lower rate later would be a bonus, but it isn’t guaranteed.
Finding a home you love matters. Being comfortable with the cost of owning it matters just as much.
