NEW HOUSING LAW — What It Could Mean for Buyers & Renters

🏡 GOOD NEWS FOR HOUSING: The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is Now Law!

If you've been wondering whether anything is being done about the high cost of buying or renting a home, this is worth knowing about.

The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is a new bipartisan federal housing law designed to address one of the biggest problems in today's housing market: we simply don't have enough housing.

So what could this mean for everyday buyers and renters?

🔑 MORE HOMES = MORE CHOICES
The law is designed to make it easier and faster to build new housing by cutting unnecessary red tape and streamlining some of the approval and construction processes.

💰 A FOCUS ON AFFORDABILITY
Increasing the supply of homes and apartments can help ease some of the pressure that has pushed both home prices and rents higher. This won't happen overnight, but increasing supply is an important part of improving affordability long term.

🏠 HELP FOR HOMEBUYERS COMPETING FOR HOMES
The law places new restrictions on certain large institutional investors purchasing single-family homes — giving individual buyers and families a better opportunity to compete.

🏘️ MORE AFFORDABLE HOUSING OPTIONS
The law updates and expands programs intended to encourage the development and financing of affordable housing, including multifamily housing and manufactured homes.

🏦 MORE SUPPORT FOR LOCAL LENDING
It also makes changes intended to help community banks provide more financing for home construction and mortgages.

The bottom line:

There isn't a magic switch that suddenly makes housing inexpensive. But increasing the number of homes available, removing barriers to building, encouraging affordable housing and giving individual buyers a better opportunity to compete are important steps toward a healthier housing market.
