In 2019, a group of Missouri home sellers filed a class-action lawsuit against the NAR, alleging that the NAR's practices violated antitrust laws and inflated commissions.

A jury found the NAR guilty and awarded a nearly $1.8 billion verdict in October 2022.

NAR also agreed to rule changes, including:

* Getting rid of its rules on commissions
* Formalizing the relationship between buyers and real estate agents
* Codifying the practice of putting agreements into writing

This is expected to fundamentally change how real estate transactions are handled!
