Did you know it’s actually hotter in downtown Vegas compared to areas like Summerlin, Centennial Hills, and Henderson?
It’s due to Urban Heat Island Effect— where concrete, asphalt, and buildings absorb heat during the day and release it back into the air, making those areas feel even warmer.
You ever notice how it feels like you just walked into an oven in some parts of Vegas… but then drive 15 minutes out to Summerlin or Centennial and suddenly it’s… survivable? 😅
It’s the phenomenon called the Urban Heat Island Effect.
Basically, areas with more buildings, concrete, asphalt, and glass (hello Central Valley 👀) absorb and hold heat all day… then release it right back into the air. So even when the sun goes down, it still feels HOT.
Meanwhile, communities like Summerlin and Centennial Hills have more open space, landscaping, and airflow… which helps keep things a little cooler. Not cold, let’s not get crazy. But noticeably better.
The good news is the city is actually working on it! Las Vegas is currently caring for over 45,000 trees and plans to plant 60,000 more drought-tolerant trees by 2050. 🌳
This is exactly why we always say: Buying in Vegas isn’t just about the house… it’s about the environment around it.
Would you rather deal with more heat for a central location… or trade it for a cooler, more spread-out neighborhood? 👀👇
