I received this question the other day.
“Do you use the skid steer to chase the CMI because the CMI doesn’t leave as nice of a finish?”
Answer - No, the CMI will leave just as nice of a finish. The CMI and TL12V2 both have Shearex heads, and both are running OEM carbides. The only difference is the head on the CMI has a larger motor since it’s on a larger carrier, and has 3 less teeth than the skid steer head. The CMI brings a lot of power. High horsepower, high pressure, and really high flow, plus 4 pumps. It can lay a lot of material down fast, especially big stuff, but it’s slower on its feet like a dozer. A skid steer moves much faster, but cannot process larger, more dense stuff near as quick. Typically 1 acre or less, the skid steer will do. 1-2 acres I recommend the CMI. 3+ acres I recommend the combo. The CMI could do it all, and is faster than a skid steer in this material on 13 acres. However, if you let the powerhouse mow it down, and break it up into chunks, then let a high horsepower skid steer come in with the speed, this is where you get the lowest cost per acre on 3+ acre projects.
I always appreciate the comments and questions. I read them all, and try to respond to them all. This one I thought was worth explaining a little more in detail as to why.
