Big news for homebuyers!
As of March 5, 2026, the Homebuyers Privacy Protection Act is officially in effect — bringing stronger privacy protections to people applying for a mortgage.
Before this law, when someone applied for a home loan and their credit was pulled, credit bureaus could sell that information as “trigger leads.” That often resulted in a flood of unsolicited calls, texts, and emails from lenders they never contacted.
Now, that changes.
✔️ Limits the sharing of mortgage application data
✔️ Reduces unwanted lender solicitations
✔️ Helps protect buyers from confusing or misleading offers
In short: a more private and less stressful homebuying experience.
If you’re planning to buy a home, you should now see far fewer surprise calls and messages after applying for a mortgage.
