I asked a simple question about prioritizing ourselves, our families, and our clients, and the responses have been incredible.
What I've learned from this discussion is that success and balance are not opposites.
Some agents put God first, family second, and work third. Others shared that after years of coaching and personal growth, they learned to prioritize themselves so they could better serve everyone else. Some schedule every showing around family events, sports, birthdays, and date nights. Others take intentional vacations where the phone stays off and the laptop stays home.
But regardless of the order, there was one common theme:
✨ Boundaries matter. ✨
The agents who have been in this business for 10, 20, even 30+ years weren't telling stories about answering every phone call. They were talking about setting expectations, protecting family time, taking days off, communicating clearly, and working with clients who respect their time.
One comment really stuck with me:
"Success in the world cannot compensate for failure in the home."
As Realtors, we often tell ourselves we're working hard for our families. But if we're not careful, the people we're working so hard for end up getting what's left of us instead of the best of us.
I've also learned that:
🏡 Not every client is your client.
❤️ Boundaries don't make you less professional.
📱 Being responsive is not the same as being available 24/7.
✈️ Taking a vacation doesn't mean your business will fall apart.
👨👩👧👦 Family memories can't be rescheduled.
🤝 The right clients respect your time because they respect you.
This business is demanding, and I truly love what I do. But after reading all of your perspectives, I'm reminded that the goal isn't just to build a successful career. The goal is to build a successful life.
Thank you to everyone who shared your experiences, wisdom, and hard-earned lessons. I think this conversation is one our industry needs to have more often.
So I'll leave you with this:
What boundary have you set that made the biggest positive impact on your life and business?
👇 I'd love to hear your answer.
