September is one of the best times to explore the Mickelson Trail. The first hints of fall begin showing in the Black Hills, the air feels a little crisper and the changing colors make an already beautiful ride even better.

Just remember: a September ride can bring two seasons in one day. Mornings and evenings may be cold, while midday temperatures can climb from warm to downright hot. Dress in layers, pack plenty of water and be prepared to adjust as the day goes on.

Plan ahead, pack for changing conditions and enjoy fall on the Mickelson Trail—one layer at a time.
