REALTOR® Safety Month is not just about protecting real estate professionals. Home sellers should also take precautions to help keep themselves, their families and their belongings safe throughout the home selling process.
While thefts and other incidents are uncommon, taking proactive steps can help reduce potential risks.

Here are five ways homeowners can stay safer when selling their home:

1. Know who is entering your home. Ask your real estate agent to verify the identity of visitors and make it clear that you do not want anyone in your home whose identity has not been confirmed.
2. Secure valuables and personal information. Remove or safely store keys, jewelry, electronics, cash, credit cards, bills, documents containing personal information, weapons, family photos and calendars or reminders.
3. Be prepared for open houses. Ask visitors to sign in and enter and exit through a designated door. Your agent should accompany visitors to areas such as the garage or backyard and ensure doors and windows remain secure.
4. Use caution with unexpected visitors. If someone arrives without an appointment, do not open the door. Ask them to contact your real estate agent to schedule a visit.
5. Verify anyone claiming to be a buyer’s agent. If an agent arrives unexpectedly, contact your real estate agent to confirm the appointment before allowing access to your home.

Selling your home should be an exciting experience. Taking a few simple precautions can help you focus on what matters most while protecting yourself, your home and your belongings.

We had a great morning with some of our “East” side friends! Morgan puts together some of the best listing tours (today there was a raffle for Astro’s tickets), allowing first hand feedback and networking for realtors to get their listings sold and closed here at Stewart Title League City.
