🏡 LET’S TALK SECURITY DEPOSITS! 💰
We get it — nobody loves paying a security deposit equal to one month’s rent. But there’s a reason behind it, and it’s about protecting the property and setting everyone up for a successful rental experience. 👇
A rental property is a major investment, and unfortunately, not every tenancy ends with the home in the same condition it was in on move-in day.
🚩 Security deposits help protect against things like:
🔨 Property damage beyond normal wear and tear
🧹 Excessive cleaning needed after move-out
💸 Unpaid rent or other amounts legally owed under the lease
🚪 Other lease-related damages or obligations, as permitted by law
Repairs, replacements, and getting a home ready for the next tenant can add up FAST. A security deposit helps provide a layer of protection for the property owner when things don’t go as planned.
Here’s the bottom line: We’re not collecting a deposit because we expect every tenant to damage a home. We collect it because responsible property management means protecting the owner’s investment while maintaining fair, consistent policies for everyone.
And remember — a security deposit is NOT automatically a fee! It must be handled and returned according to the lease and applicable law, with only lawful deductions made when appropriate.
