Independence buyers: what's the difference between an appraisal and an inspection?

Think about buying a used truck. The inspection is your mechanic popping the hood. The appraisal is what the truck is actually worth, and your lender orders it to make sure the house is worth what they're lending. You want both answers before you sign.
