Back to my roots. A classic and elegant owner’s retreat is in the works. Soft blues, neutrals and hints of blush set the tone for what will be a lovely escape. When I saw this paper installed at The Goring in London 6 years ago, I knew I had to use it. So happy I’ve found the perfect clients for it!

Behind the scenes footage of the sweetest little powder room. There were a lot of obstacles with this space with size being one of them, but that didn’t stop the collaboration with my creative clients to turn this under the staircase hideaway into a tiny jewel box. Too excited not to share our work in progress! The crown jewel is the fabric we are using on a darling, bespoke sink skirt thanks to . It’s all in the details, baby, so stay tuned for a final install shot!

Did a little thing and embarked on another trip around the sun! July has been full of celebrations and adventures with a lot of design work sprinkled in between all the fun. I dreamt of draperies, vintage finds, and layered fabrics last night so it’s hard to know where to begin, but if I must, it is here in this sun drenched sitting room. Have you ever experienced a brief moment when you realize it is not coincidence, but fate? Stumbling into these chairs was just that. A sweet client and I picked up four of these for her dining room at just last week. It gives me hope that maybe we will find 4 more to create a set. There is so much to love here but for me, I love the timeless botanical fabric used to create the ceiling canopy. What’s your favorite design element?

About last night. . . A mid week escape to celebrate 14 years with my guy. Forever thankful for him. He has believed in me and my design business and been my biggest supporter and encourager along the way. Bonus to our getaway was the design journey I experienced. No detail was left unturned by British interior designer Joyce Evans. Truly a masterpiece. At one moment it felt as though we were transported to a Parisian cafe and then the next a lounge in London. The beauty of this place is like no other and every corner I turned was something new to discover, study and admire. I can’t wait to share my findings with you all and my hope is you too can experience the beauty of this place through the images I captured.

Tuesday inspiration. I sat down at my desk early this morning with a cup of coffee in hand. I had dreamt of an upcoming project for a lovely family in a custom new home and was feeling creative. I wanted to pull fabrics to find my inspiration. I almost crumpled up the paper that was on my desk chair to tidy up, but felt the need to flip it over and my breath was taken away. A love note from my darling six year old girl. I’ve found my inspiration and am ready to take on the day!

If you look hard enough, often there is a silver lining. We had to reselect what I thought was an irreplaceable wallpaper due to inventory. There are so many behind the scenes issues in the design world that many people don’t realize. We see the finished product, but don’t always take into account the amount of time each little detail took to select and sometimes reselect. I am a perfectionist and would not settle so I searched all of my sources for another option. Today when I showed the new paper to my client, she said her 🤍 skipped a beat. Silver lining. Design day made. And this darling scheme is now in the works to turn what was probably once a coat closet into a jewel of a powder room tucked underneath the stairs in the most gorgeous stone historic Virginia home.

That moment when you walk into the room and it takes your breath away. Today was a huge drapery install for Project Red Cedar Reno. I left midway into the install for another design meeting and when I returned and the install was in full swing, It stopped me in my tracks. Seeing the joy and happiness on my client’s face made the long wait worth it and that much sweeter. I can’t WAIT to share the rest of this house with you! From a moody, masculine home office, to the glitz and glam in a formal living room, this house is a show stopper! And I could not be more proud of how it has turned out. There was definitely blood, sweat, and maybe a few tears, but right now I’m soaking up all of the goodness after a successful install!

We all deserve a moment to breath, to fill our cup with moments that bring us joy, a chance to recharge and reset. I’ve been floating on air all week after a lovely Mother’s Day weekend. Real, true girlfriends are a rare gift, a beautiful treasure and I played hostess for several ladies to kick off the weekend. I served several beautiful, colorful recipes by from her cookbook Nothing Fancy and adorned the table with clippings from my yard, bamboo and shells. It was simply perfect. The weekend unfolded with ball games, family meals, breakfast in bed, a trip to the spa with dear friends, and a fancy family dinner out. Oh and a special gift from my husband that my design friends will appreciate. See all the details in my stories today. I hope you, too, had a chance to unwind, recharge and reset. I am currently working on an incredible historic property and my goal is to preserve the history but bring a fresh, current feel to the home. Nothing dreary in this family friendly porch. Fresh fabrics, pops of color, live plants, and functional seating creates the perfect oasis to escape a spring storm. I recently had a call with a potential new client who asked me about performance fabrics and how I make my selections. As a designer, not only is our job to select beautiful finishes that are aesthetically pleasing and fit a client’s design style, but we also take into consideration so many other elements. Performance fabrics, double rubs on upholstery, finishes on furniture, rug material, and the list goes on. Bunny Mellons’s Virginia country estate, or should I say paradise? Cozy, yet elegant. Refined and sophisticated, yet not stuffy. Simple elegance. Walled gardens, French murals, Medieval English herb gardens with so much love poured into each element. I took a virtual tour from photos my mother captured after a visit to the gardens yesterday.
