With just five supplies from the Dollar Store and a few household supplies, you can tie dye coffee filters with washable markers to create dozens of gorgeous butterflies! This is a fun craft idea for anytime of year and I love how inexpensive they are to make.
Materials:
- Dollar Store Coffee Filters
- Dollar Store Washable Markers
- Dollar Store Chenille Stems
- Dollar Store Pony Beads
- Dollar Store Zippered Bags – Gallon Size
- Spray Bottle filled with water
Step One
Flatten out a coffee filter on top of a gallon size zippered bag. Draw random designs on the coffee filter with a variety of colors. Remember that color combinations next to each other on the color wheel will become muddy once blended – red and green; blue and orange; yellow and purple.
Step Two
Mist coffee filter with water from a spray bottle and then let dry completely. Set aside to dry but it’s super fun to watch the colors mix and blend!
Step Three
Create two tie-dyed coffee filters for each butterfly.
Step Four
Fan fold two coffee filters to create each butterfly.
Step Five
Stack fan folded coffee filters on top of each other, as pictured.
Step Six
Fold chenille stem in half and place coffee filters one-third from base. Twist the bottom loop of the chenille stem. Twist once above the folded coffee filters, creating a tight section.
Step Seven
Leave a ½” loop and twist again to create the butterfly head. Leave the antennae straight.
Step Eight
Open and fluff out the wings of the butterfly. Pinch at the ends to retain the folds.
Step Nine
Thread a pony bead on the end of each antennae and curl into a swirl.
And there you have it! So easy and colorful!

Here’s an easy 15 minute one pot parmesan pasta! Save this recipe for future reference and make sure to tag me in your creations!🍝
➡️Ingredients
- 4 1/2 cups low-sodium chicken stock
- 12 oz spaghetti pasta, uncooked
- 1 small onion sliced thin
- 14.5 oz Rotel or petite diced tomatoes
- 1 cup fresh basil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 juice of a lemon + zest
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 tbsp sea salt
- 1 tsp fresh ground black pepper
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded parmesan cheese
- 1 cup shaved parmesan cheese
- more basil for garnish
➡️Instructions
In a deep skillet or heavy bottom pot add pasta, tomatoes, onions, basil, garlic, lemon juice + zest. Drizzle olive oil, add salt and pepper.
Add chicken stock and stir everything.�On medium-high heat bring to a boil. Cover and cook for 8-10. Half way through cooking give it a good stir to make sure the pasta does not stick together. Cover and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes or until pasta is cooked.�Stir in heavy cream, and both parmesan cheeses. Let sit for a few minutes for the sauce to thicken up!

➡️Put Diapers At The Bottom Of Your Potted Plants - If you’ve got a bunch of old diapers that you never ended up using, or that your child grew out of, then don’t worry they still have some value. Diapers are the perfect moisture retainer. Stick one in the bottom of a potted plant then layer the soil on top. The diaper will allow the planter to retain water which means there is less of a chance that you accidentally suck it dry.
➡️Let Your Wine Bottles Water Your Plants - The easiest way to do this would be to poke a hole into a cork and stuff it back into a wine bottle filled with water. Insert the neck of the bottle into the soil of your favorite potted plant and it will stay appropriately hydrated for as long as there’s water in the bottle!
➡️Use A Coffee Filter To Line Your Pots - Have you ever watered your potted plants only to watch all of it drain out of the bottom right away? One way to avoid this is to use a coffee filter to line the pot before filling it with your soil and your plant. Water might still get out this way but at the very least, the coffee filter will slow things down and allow the soil to absorb the water for longer. Not only are coffee filters absorbent, but they will also prevent soil from clogging up the drainage holes of your pot.
➡️Soap Deters Deer - Did you know that deer don’t like the smell of soap? By cutting up pieces of bar soap and placing them around your garden, you’ll be adding a layer of protection against deer and some other critters that love to munch on your plants.
