Check this out! Fairfax County Solid Waste is using rooftop solar to power our facilities. That means cleaner energy, lower operating costs, and less stress on the electric grid — especially on those scorching afternoons when everyone’s air conditioners are running nonstop.
Here’s what that looks like:
• I-66 Transfer Station produces 350.98 kW — the largest rooftop solar array on an existing county facility.
• The I‑95 Landfill Complex adds 50.14 kW.
• The Newington Facility adds 150.3 kW.
To put solar output into everyday terms: a 5.6 kW rooftop system can power things like several window AC units, dozens of refrigerators, or hundreds of LED bulbs during peak hours. The solar power systems help keep our buildings running efficiently while easing demand on the grid.
