March 1st is the deadline to apply for the Montana Homestead Property Tax Exemption! If you do not apply before March 1st, your property taxes in 2026 will double.

✔️Go to homestead.mt.gov
✔️Use Montana Cadastral to look up the geocode
✔️Confirm enrollment of your primary residence and the primary residences of people you know
✔️If enrollment isn’t complete do it today!

If you need help let us know. It’s really important this doesn’t get missed!

This morning, during a meeting I attended, the March 1st deadline to apply for the Montana Homestead Property Tax Exemption was discussed at length. Afterward, our office decided to start checking the status of family, friends, and clients we’ve recently helped purchase homes, and we were surprised to find that many had not yet applied.

This exemption is not automatic. If you do not apply for your primary residence before March 1st, your property taxes in 2026 will double.

There are no retroactive fixes and it cannot be amended after the deadline.

Because this is so easy to overlook, and because a tax increase of this size could be incredibly challenging for some home owners, we are spending time today checking statuses and notifying people we know. Please do the same for your friends and family.

It’s been a little while since you’ve heard from me 🤍

After welcoming a new addition to our family and taking some time to settle in, I’m excited to be back at it - refreshed, grateful, and ready for what’s ahead.
