We're excited to see the University of Kentucky spotlight Neil Dees, the Project Manager helping bring the Railyard to life!

Neil's journey from Bluegrass Community and Technical College to the University of Kentucky College of Design, alongside nearly a decade of mentorship from Paul Lea at Studio A Architecture, is a great story of local talent, education, and hands-on experience coming together.

A big part of the Incremental Development Alliance’s mission is helping more local people become developers and take on projects in their own communities. The Railyard is one example of what can happen when people have the knowledge, connections, and confidence to get started.

🚒 Safety starts long before MOVE-IN DAY!

We recently welcomed Lexington Fire Department Station 1 to Railyard Lexington for a hands-on training visit.

Their chief brought some of the newer firefighters through the building during construction so they could learn the layout and structure firsthand, knowledge that could make a difference if they’re ever called here for an emergency.

At Mefford Contracting, we’re proud to open our jobsite to the people who work every day to keep our community safe. We appreciate Earl Hayes Raglin Jr. for leading the tour.

There’s a lot of excitement building around the ground-floor spaces at the Railyard! With spaces ranging from around 750 to 1,500 square feet, there’s still time and flexibility for future tenants to help shape them as construction progresses.

Six months into construction at the Railyard in Lexington, Kentucky.

After years of planning, designing, financing, and problem-solving, it’s pretty incredible to finally see these buildings taking shape.

We've faced plenty of challenges along the way, but we’re making real progress. All three buildings are now out of the ground, framing is moving quickly, and we’re getting closer to completion every week.

The Railyard is getting closer, and we’re now starting conversations with businesses interested in being part of the project.

Set to open in Spring 2027, we’re leasing commercial storefronts from around 750 to 1,500 square feet. Because construction is still underway, there’s plenty of flexibility to shape the layout around your business.

I was asked this week how we ended up working with Mefford Contracting on the Railyard, and a lot of the credit goes to Earl.

He was involved early in the bidding process, helping work through pricing, scope, questions from the plans, and what it was actually going to take to build the project. That work made a real impression on us and played a big part in choosing the team.

Now, more than a year later, Earl is out here every day helping keep the Railyard moving.

Thanks, Earl. We appreciate everything you’ve put into this project.
