In 47 of 50 states, single women living independently are more likely to own homes. Overall, single women own 2.71 million more homes than single men.

Despite women typically earning 83% of men's pay, they excel in homeownership. LendingTree's analysis suggests that single women are more inclined than single men to make sacrifices for homeownership. Women often exhibit more risk aversion, and owning a home is widely regarded as a secure investment.

Real estate agents also say they’ve noticed more single-female buyers now than in the past. “I’ve definitely sold more homes to women than in prior years,” says Lorraine Hurlbut of Keller Williams in New Jersey, the No. 4 state for female homeowners. “They’re tired of paying high rents that are the equivalent of a mortgage payment. They’re secure in their careers and want to ride the wave of ownership and investment.”
