💚 Here ya go! Check out this great list of trees we’ll have for you at Greyline Station on Saturday, March 28th!
9am - 12 pm
101 W. Loudon Avenue

1️⃣ One tree per person or household/property owner.
2️⃣ Private property planting only. Please plant promptly.
3️⃣ Lexington/Fayette County planting only.
4️⃣ Bring a yard waste bag or similar and get mulch to take home with your tree. We usually run out of wood chips around 150 bags, but we will do our best to make sure the pile at African Cemetery No. 2 is stocked and ready for you (so maybe throw a shovel in the car, too)!

Thank you to our wonderful sponsors Fayette County Conservation District-Kentucky
Bartlett Tree Experts - Lexington
Wild Birds Unlimited
and our fantastic hosts, Greyline Station for having us back for our 9th giveaway in a row!

Come out and adopt a tree from us. Together we’re growing tree canopy and a more vibrant community!

We’re still closed today (Monday, January 26th) but the good news is that we eclipsed the $22,000 mark for paying off student lunch debt for Fayette County families! We’re not even close to finished yet…

You can continue to donate online to the Dahlhūs Fund nonprofit linked in my linktree, order online for Valentine’s Day and Sweet 16 boxes, or follow along because every dime from social media goes into the fund too.

The Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention is activating the Emergency Winter Weather Plan. The community’s Emergency Winter Weather Plan will be activated for this evening (Wednesday, January 14th) through and including Tuesday morning (January 20th). The OHPI will monitor forecasts and update as appropriate.

The Emergency Winter Weather Plan provides a coordinated response for times when extreme cold weather creates additional, immediate need for expanded capacity to assist persons experiencing homelessness in Lexington. Extreme temperatures often force persons to seek shelter who may not otherwise seek assistance.

Under activation of the plan:
🏠 Emergency shelters operate with additional capacity and relax previous restrictions
🚍 Lextran will provide free fixed route rides to shelter
🚗 Expanded outreach efforts will work to notify individuals of weather and facilitate access to shelter

This year, a temporary winter shelter located at 1306 Versailles Road adds 216 additional beds for adult men and women, operating between November 15th, 2025, and April 1, 2026. Individuals can access the shelter from Versailles Road only; no entrance is permitted via Nancy Hanks Blvd. Signage at Versailles Road will direct individuals the shelter entrance.

For pedestrian safety, we have established a fenced walkway that will guide residents to the intake area of the shelter. Resident vehicles should be parked in the front lot of LFUCG’s property. Individuals are warned against parking vehicles on private property, as vehicles may be subject to towing by the owner. Check-ins are welcomed 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. We strongly encourage providers and prospective residents to review information in the attached Winter Weather Plan document in advance for familiarity with rules and requirements.

Kentucky households can apply for LIHEAP Crisis from January 6 to March 27, 2026, to help with heating emergencies during the colder months.

Eligible households with income up to 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines and experiencing a heating crisis may qualify for assistance. This program covers heating costs for electric, natural gas, propane, coal, wood, or fuel oil. Benefits are paid directly to the energy vendor, and a disconnect notice, past-due bill, or eviction notice is required to apply.

Assistance received during previous LIHEAP components does not affect eligibility. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Contact your local Community Action Agency to apply. To find your local outreach office, visit capky.org/network.
