AU was founded in 1990 by Holly Wiedemann on the principles of adaptive use, and focuses on opportunities for urban infill as well as the revitalization of existing structures. AU has been directly responsible for creating over 350 units of mixed income housing, 100,000 square feet of commercial space and over $65 million of projects across the Commonwealth of Kentucky and West Virginia. In June of 2010, Holly founded AU Construction, in order to vertically integrate the company and build all of the projects AU develops. AU currently has 3 projects under construction in Lexington and Covington, Kentucky and Clendenin, West Virginia. Each of AU’s 14 developments, now spanning two decades, have received numerous local, state and national awards. Despite the collapse in the equity marketplace in 2008 and 2009, AU has thrived and grown substantially. Wiedemann was recently named the 2011 NAWBO Business Owner of the Year. In June 2011, one of AU’s developments, Glasgow Graded School Apartments, was selected as a finalist by the National Development Council for innovative affordable housing. The project was showcased in the historic Lincoln Room in the United States Senate. AU has worked to enhance the communities in which their projects are located. AU’s projects have created more than 5,280 jobs throughout Kentucky and West Virginia, in addition to providing exceptional places to live, work and play.

September gives us another great reason to celebrate some of the people who keep Team AU moving forward! Please join us in congratulating these four team members on their work anniversaries!

Branden Davidson – 1 Year
Branden joined AU last September at Davis Park and has made quite an impact in his first year! He was recently promoted to Lead Property Manager and will be bringing his experience and leadership to Kearney Ridge. Congratulations on your first year AND your promotion, Branden!

Joe Peggs – 9 Years
Nine years of knowledge, experience, and keeping things running! Joe was recently promoted to Lead Maintenance & Training Technician and will now share that expertise while helping onboard and train our new maintenance technicians. He also continues to serve as the lead technician at Kearney Ridge. Thank you for nine years of dedication to AU, Joe!

Norman Ferguson – 1 Year
Norman celebrates his first year with AU in maintenance, helping keep our Davis Park properties running strong. He is also always willing to step in as a mentor or lend a hand at another property when needed. We appreciate your flexibility, dependability, and teamwork, Norman!

Gemeyal Harris – 2 Years
Gemeyal is celebrating two years with AU as our Maintenance Technician at Parkside! His hard work behind the scenes helps keep Parkside running smoothly every day. Thank you for everything you do, Gemeyal!

Second Annual Bourbon Barrel Pick with the Boss!

A very special group AU employees had the opportunity to spend the day with our President, Johan Graham, for our annual bourbon barrel selection. The crew headed to New Riff Distilling for a behind-the-scenes experience, plenty of tasting, and the very important job of selecting this year’s AU barrel.

After careful consideration (it’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it! 😁), the group was unanimous—an incredible 8-year barrel was the winner!

Our selected barrel will now be bottled in an etched bottle with our logo, and will eventually make its way into the hands of our AU employees and VIP vendor partners as a special token of appreciation.

Great bourbon, great conversation, and an even better group of people. A wonderful day was had by all, and we’re already looking forward to seeing how this year’s selection turns out!
