The long-awaited Legacy Trail tunnel under Newtown Pike opened today, and it is awesome! As I was riding through on my bike, I met Lexington's 2nd District - Councilmember Shayla D. Lynch, who was out for a run. This is a major safety improvement for the trail. The crosswalk at Newtown Pike and Citation has always been dangerous, but especially so during construction. I recently went down in that intersection trying to avoid a driver turning right from Citation against the crosswalk light. Fortunately, I just skinned a knee. But I've had at least one friend hit by a car in that intersection. Now, it's just a smooth ride through the tunnel! Thanks to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for making this happen.

Yesterday, Thursday Sept. 24, I visited Bryan Station High School to participate in CivicLex’s Fall Civics Expo. I had a wonderful time discussing with BSHS seniors what Council does, and I was interviewed on camera about my experience in this role. Students asked great questions, and I do believe I spoke with at least one future Council member.

I was happy to help Mayor Linda Gorton welcome scouts from Lexington's Troop 186 to tonight's Council meeting. Troop 186 was a big part of my young life. I earned my Eagle Scout award there, as did my three younger brothers. Our father was the troop's scoutmaster for many years. I hope these boys get as much out of scouting as I did. Thanks to 6th District Councilmember Lisa Higgins-Hord for the photo.

Please take a moment to complete the new, brief community survey about data centers in Lexington. Your feedback will help Council Members as they review draft updates to local zoning rules.

Reminder: the Council is also holding a special meeting for in-person public input on October 6, 2026, at 5:30 PM at the Government Center (200 E. Main St).

Cyclists have been telling us for years that bike lanes on busy streets don’t work if vehicles are constantly parking in them or blocking them.

Beginning Sept. 27, violators can be fined $50 for parking or stopping in a designated bike lane, with some limited exceptions for emergency and police vehicles.

If you see violations, be sure to report them to Lexington Police Department, LexPark, or UK Police Department as appropriate. Let’s work together to make Lexington safer for everyone.

Contractors will begin paving work in Chevy Chase on Euclid Avenue and High Street next Wednesday, Sept. 16. Work will continue through Friday.
