The CSX Derby passenger cars pass through the town of Midway toward the Capitol City of Frankfort to pick up the Governor and his guest for the trip west to Churchill Downs in Louisville.

The railroad started in the town of Midway where the city streets bear the names of the original board members of the Lexington & Ohio. Eventually, after many tough years of trying to reach the Ohio River just past Louisville to Portland (then a major shipping port), the railroad stopped in Louisville since it had become the larger city. Portland is now within the metropolitan area of Louisville/Jefferson County. The L & N ( Louisville and Nashville) became the main line when the railroad finally succeeded in laying the line from Midway to Louisville. In the late 1970s L & N was sold to CSX which moved the Louisville headquarters to Jacksonville, FL.

These photos are of their main, preserved passenger cars. This train, along with our own RJ Corman train will ride the original rails that began in 1830 and together form the traditional Kentucky Derby Train that only runs on the first Saturday in May.

Woodford County has a long and rich history with the Kentucky Derby. This year 10 out of the 20 horses in the 151st Run for the Roses have a connection to our county through; ownership, trainer or breeder.

I want to thank everyone that took time out of their day to wish me a happy birthday. I never minded birthdays in the past, but turning 70 was a little different. This birthday I am grateful to have made it to 70 years. The health events in my past 5 years keeps me grateful - grateful to have the opportunity to see every sunrise and sunset and very grateful for friends like you. Thank you for remembering me on my birthday.
