💚 Did you know that Danville, Kentucky, was the capital of the Kentucky District of Virginia before KY became a state?
💛 It was chosen as the region’s first seat of government in 1785. It was the political epicenter for the frontier territory while it was still a district governed by Virginia.
🤎 Kentucke County of Virginia was established on December 31, 1776. In 1780, Kentucke County ceased to exist, and three new Virginia counties were created: Jefferson, Lincoln, and Fayette. At that same time, those three counties were grouped together as the Kentucky District of Virginia.
💚 Kentucky's founding fathers held 10 state Constitutional Conventions in Danville between 1784 and 1792. These original delegates met to deal with frontier challenges and negotiate Kentucky's separation from Virginia.
💛 After 8 long years, Kentucky adopted its first constitution on April 19, 1792. The state constitution went into full effect on June 1, 1792, officially establishing the 15th state of the Union as the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
