3 years old eucalyptus neglecta grew to 25 ft . I was so thrilled to finally propagate eucalypts to va. Now the recent sub freezing week with wind gusts much lower killed them. Every leaf dry and brittle. Maybe the root system is strong enough to pop out some new leaves... Otherwise they may resprout from ground level 😭😭so what to do... Plant some more!!!

Progress on renovating the staircase .

OK, so it's definitely time to redo the staircase at Hogback. After supporting hundreds of student boots, it was showing wear, (see stringer that was removed). Also it was originally built with a shortage of stringers (stair supports),
The staircase has
1 New stringers, with an additional one in the center.
2 Vinyl tape on the tops to reduce rotting and water damage.
3 Kumaru Brazilian hardwood stair treads
4 re-enforced cap and railings
5 Fully painted and sealed

This is not a challenge for my good students who I am sure with a chainsaw and match could still assert superiority over wood, but I'd like to think it will provide a safe and lasting addition to Hogback.
