Tarver headed the company until his death in 1925. His nephew, Mr. H.O Compton, maintained the business until 1926. At which time, Mr. Compton Smith, a nephew of Mr. H.O Compton, purchased the company. He was man

ger of Tarver Abstract Company for more than 25 years. Following Mr. Smith, his son-in-law Mr. Kenneth Dismukes managed the company until his death in 1974 when Mrs. Kenneth Dismukes assumed control. In 1984, Mrs Dismukes and Ms. Carol Kuhn, who were both daughters of Mr. Compton Smith sold the business to local citizens Charles Wiggins, E.R. Norwood, and Charles McGuire. Charles McGuire has served as manager since 1984 until he purchased the interests of Charles Wiggins and E.R. Norwood in 1999. With state of the art technology, an experienced staff, and a company-wide dedication to service, Tarver remains the premier title company in Liberty County. Tarver Abstract has maintained offices in the Liberty County Courthouse, the old Masonic Building located in the 300 block of Main Street, a one story building on the north side of the 2000 block of Trinity next to the old Ager Building, the Lee Office Building in the 500 block of Travis, a one story building at 1811 Trinity across from the fire station, and 2030 Sam Houston next to the Lemon Tree. Since 1991, Tarver Abstract Company has been located at 400 Main Street in Liberty, Texas, the building formerly occupied by Liberty County Federal Savings and Loan Association. This building is located on the site of Steusoff's Pharmacy, which was razed in 1930. The current building was constructed in 1931 by First Liberty National Bank and served as the location of the bank until 1961 when it was sold to Liberty County Federal Savings and Loan. The building and adjacent lands were purchased from the Resolution Trust Corporation 1991. In 1985, Tarver Abstract expanded to include a branch office in Cleveland in order to better serve our customers.

🕰 This Sunday, don't forget to spring forward! 🥱

Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 8, 2026 at 2:00 a.m. Clocks move forward one hour—so you’ll lose an hour of sleep, but gain more daylight in the evening! Here's the drill for Saturday night:

• Set your clocks forward one hour before bed on Saturday night
• Check the clocks in your car, appliances, and office
• Enjoy the extra sunshine after work!

More sunshine, more closings—let’s do it at Tarver Abstract Co. in Liberty! ☀️

When you’re buying a home, your lender is watching your finances very closely. Taking on a new car payment can change your debt-to-income ratio, impact your credit score, or even require your loan to be re-approved. Any of those can delay—or derail—your closing.

Best practice? Wait until after your home has funded and recorded to make big purchases, open new credit, or finance anything new.

It’s one of the simplest ways to keep your closing on track and stress-free.

💰 Starting March 1, 2026, some all-cash residential purchases made by LLCs or trusts will require a FinCEN report at closing. The goal is simple: more transparency in certain cash deals.

😅 Don't fret, Realtors! For most transactions, very little will change. We'll handle the reporting and guide buyers through any additional information needed. If you’re working with cash buyers using entities, just be prepared for a little extra documentation at closing.

⁉ Have questions about the new FinCEN rule? We’re happy to help you navigate the changes. 🌟

In Texas, earnest money is the buyer’s good-faith deposit showing they’re serious about the purchase. It’s held by the title company in escrow and applied toward the buyer’s costs at closing.

🏡 Texas Tip for Potential Home Buyers: We know--it's tempting to celebrate early. But until your home is funded, lenders may still:
🔎 Re-pull credit
🔎 Re-verify employment
🔎 Re-check debt

That new credit card or job change could turn closing day into a huge headache (and we really want you to get to closing!!). 😬 Sit tight. Stay the same. Celebrate AFTER funding!
