Zillow kicked out of Chicagoland? Yep, that just happened.
A major shift is happening in real estate right now and most consumers have no idea.
For years, buyers have opened apps like Zillow, assuming they were seeing the full market. That is no longer the case.
Marketing platforms like Zillow, were never actually “the market.” They were displaying information fed from the MLS, which is the true source of listing data.
As disputes grow over how listings are shared and displayed, consumers will start noticing missing inventory and inconsistent search results between platforms.
Technology has made home searching easier, and these platforms like Zillow absolutely helped consumers engage with real estate more conveniently. But these are still businesses built around advertising, lead generation, and profit.
We’ve had this conversation before with Zestimates and how inaccurate they can be. Algorithms can be helpful, but they cannot replace local expertise, relationships, strategy, and true market knowledge.
For sellers, your exposure is still strong through the MLS and brokerage networks.
For buyers, it’s more important than ever to work with someone who has full access to the market.
Real estate is changing quickly, and I think many consumers are underestimating how significant this shift could become.
