As we head into the holiday season, many of us are looking forward to time with friends and family, community gatherings, and a chance to enjoy the spirit of the season. It’s also a time when we often see an increase in thefts, scams, and vehicle burglaries. With that in mind, we want to share a few reminders to help keep you and your home safe this year.

If you’re out shopping, either in person or online, be careful with how you store and transport gifts. Try not to leave packages visible inside your vehicle, and remember to lock your doors and remove any valuables or key fobs. A locked vehicle with nothing in sight is far less likely to be targeted.

If you’ll be out of town, take a few steps before you leave: secure all doors and windows, set your alarm, and consider using timers or smart lighting to make the home look occupied. Residents can also sign up for our Closed Home Program, which allows officers to periodically check on your property while you’re away.
