KAUAI COMMUNITY PLAYERS ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR
DEATH OF A SALESMAN
ABOUT THE PLAY:
Widely considered one of the greatest masterpieces of modern American drama, Arthur Millerâs Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning play Death of a Salesman is a devastatingly poignant exploration of the American Dream.
The play follows traveling salesman W***y Loman as he is forced to confront the heartbreaking realization that his life, career, and identity are failures built on fragile illusions. Fusing intense realism with fluid, dreamlike memory sequences, Miller crafts a
timeless masterpiece about family loyalty, the weight of unfulfilled expectations, and the quiet tragedies of everyday life. To perform Death of a Salesman is to take part in a cornerstone of American theatrical history.
THIS AUDITION IS STRICTLY FOR THE FOUR MEMBERS OF THE LOMAN FAMILY ONLY.
The interpersonal dynamic of these four characters drives the playâs themes and emotional impact. The script calls for 8 men and 5 women. Auditions for the remaining roles will take place in January 2027.

AUDITION PREPARATION
We want this to be a collaborative, welcoming experience! Please prepare two elements:
1. Character Understanding & Motivation:
Be prepared to discuss what draws you to the character youâre auditioning for. What drives them? What do you understand about their internal conflicts and relationships with other
characters? We aren't looking for an academic lectureâa warm, conversational tone as if we're chatting over coffee is perfect! Show us why you're passionate about this play.
2. Monologue Performance:
Prepare a monologue from Death of a Salesman spoken by the character for whom you are auditioning (memorized preferred). Choose a piece that helps demonstrate your vocal, emotional, and physical understanding of the character. See below for a link to the pdf of the script.
AVAILABLE ROLES: THE LOMAN FAMILY
⢠W***y Loman (Age: Early 60s) â The tragic heart of the play, W***y is a veteran traveling salesman unraveling under the weight of his own unrealized dreams. Unable to let go of his belief in the promise of success, W***y becomes trapped between painful reality and nostalgic illusions as he struggles to reconcile his life's output with his grand aspirations.
⢠Linda Loman (Age: Early 60s) â W***yâs fiercely loyal and protective wife, Linda is the emotional anchor holding the family together. She sees W***yâs vulnerabilities and failures clearly, yet she fiercely defends his dignity against the world and their sons
even as she enables W***yâs self-delusions.
⢠Biff Loman (Age: Early 30s, approx. 34) â The Lomansâ eldest son is a former high school football hero whose life stalled after discovering a deeply painful family secret. Honest and reflective, Biff comes to reject his fatherâs grand illusions and longs for a simple, grounded life working with his hands outdoors.
⢠Happy Loman (Age: Early 30s, approx. 32) â The younger son who lives in Biffâs shadow, Happy has inherited and fully embraced W***yâs flawed definition of success. He is a charismatic womanizer and assistant buyer who hides his inner
emptiness behind bravado and unearned confidence.
