Weekly Market Update
Mortgage rates rose this week, with the selloff due to the market pricing in election outcomes of November. The bond market has been very volatile this week, with investors not in a hurry to take a position ahead of the election. To go along with the election volatility, we have the Fed's FOMC meeting next week. The market is expecting a 0.25% cut from the Fed, although it will be interesting what the communication is from Chair Powell is on the economy. Heading into these events, financial markets hate uncertainty, and we will have lots of it next week. We are expecting to see some volatile swings in mortgage rates next week.
• U.S. 10-year Treasury on Thursday afternoon is at 4.28%.
• Initial Jobless Claims came in lower than analyst's expectations (216k claims vs expectations of 230k).
• FHFHA House Price Index came in higher than analyst's expectations (+0.3% m/m vs expectations of +0.1%).
• S&P Core Logic Case-Shiller 20-city HPI came in higher than analyst's expectations (+0.35% m/m vs expectations of +0.2%).
• JOLTS Job Openings came in lower than analyst's expectations (7.443mm openings vs expectations of 8mm job openings).
• ADP Employment Change came in higher than analyst's expectations (233k jobs vs expectations of 111k jobs).
• Pending Home sales came in higher than analyst's expectations (+7.4% m/m vs expectations of 1.9% m/m).
• Core PCE came in-line with analyst's expectations (+0.3% m/m).
• Personal Spending came in higher than analyst's expectations (+0.5% m/m vs expectations of +0.4% m/m).
• Mortgage Applications fell by 0.1% this week.
