Today marks the 61st Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The act:
• Barred unequal application of voter registration requirements.
• Outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion or national origin in hotels, motels, restaurants, theaters, and all other public accommodations engaged in interstate commerce.
• Prohibited state and municipal governments from denying access to public facilities on grounds of race, color, religion or national origin.
• Prevents discrimination by government agencies that receive federal funds.
Among other things. It should never take legislation for us to guarantee equality for all, but there we were, and now more than ever, here we are. We will not give up. Diversity is one of the best things about humanity, and equal rights for all is the foundation of the United States.
With all that is happening in our nation right now, we will raise our voices not to shout but so that those without a voice can be heard over the noise, and we will continue to take a proactive stance to create a world free of not just housing discrimination, but free from discrimination of all kinds.
We know we are not alone. Stand with us as we call out those who use their position of authority to perpetuate bigotry. We have much work to do and we look forward to working along side of you. Fair. Equal. Representation. These are not hard concepts.
For all means everyone.
