Local Favorite: Pickering Beach

If you're looking for a quiet place to relax by the water, Pickering Beach is one of our favorite local spots. Unlike Delaware's larger resort beaches, Pickering Beach is peaceful, uncrowded, and perfect for a scenic walk along the shore. The calm bay views and natural setting make it a great place to enjoy a sunset, watch shorebirds, or simply unwind.

A Note About Our Giant "Bees" 🐝You may notice some extra-large bees

You may notice some extra-large bees buzzing around the yard during your stay. Don't worry, these are not aggressive or "murderous" bees. They are cicada killers, a fascinating native species that is remarkably gentle toward people.

Near the small pile of dirt, you'll see what is likely a newly forming nest. If you're looking for a little nature entertainment, we highly recommend pouring yourself a nice glass of w**e, settling into the Adirondack chairs, and watching these incredible insects at work.

Cicada killers hunt cicadas and carry them back to their nests, often attempting the impressive feat of squeezing a cicada many times their size down a small hole in the ground. It's truly fascinating to watch!

We're delighted to have these beneficial visitors around. By helping control cicada populations, they play an important role in keeping our beautiful trees healthy. Enjoy the show, and thank you for sharing the space with some of nature's hardest workers! 🌳🐝🍷
