It’s sump pump Sunday!
Even though we are in a drought, we got a lot of rain the last two days and the old utility pump in our crawl space apparently ran out of useful life. We had about three inches of water accumulated in the low point at the front/down side of the house!
After gathering a few items (flashlight, headlamp, new drain hose, and pump), I crawled under the house, got a little muddy, and got it drained and set up for the next time rain accumulates! It rarely does, but you want to be ready.
And I probably need to revisit how rain flows around the back of the house again since we live on a hill and this was likely water that came up from the ground and got stuck at the front of the house.
While down there, I noticed the dryer exhaust pipe needed adjusting and a couple spots where insulation had fallen or been pulled down by an installer and not re-seated properly.
Most people don’t like crawling around under the house, but if you have a crawl space, it’s wise to take a peek occasionally to see what’s going on.
Usually it’s nothing, but it’s wise to check occasionally since it could save you a lot of money in the long run in the event there is a leak, fallen insulation, rodents, or other issues.
