Hello everyone.
It has been quite a trying year to say the very, very least. As we go into the holiday season, I wanted to reach out and see who all needs what. I will relay it to my network to see if anyone is willing to assist.
Personally, even with insurance, I know that the cost of replacing things we might have owned for years (or even decades) is way more expensive today. If you had the same experience as me, it has been so overwhelming to even think about. It is especially hard as it gets colder when I remember that I lost all of my winter clothing and haven't been able to replace any of it.
I also realize that looters were able to get ahold of personally identifiable information that negatively impacted many people's claims of FEMA, insurance and etc.
If you have something more personal that you need and you don't want to comment, send this page a message.
I know it is so tough as many of us lost everything we worked so hard for years and years to build. Many of us had our financial growth plans derailed. Many of us are still struggling to even see the sense in our lives now. I will tell you that you are not alone!! As former residents of Calais Forest, let us band together this season as we work to rebuild our lives. ❤️❤️❤️

It was shared that they have demolished building 5 at Calais Forest Apartments
It has started.

My heart goes out to those of us that did not have the chance to recover our belongings. I, myself, lived in building 3 and could not go in to recover the rest of my things. It is not like what happens in a fire, when you see your possessions go up in smoke. I think that is the hardest part about all of this.

A word of warning, if you believe that you had anything that contained important parts of your identity (SSN, IDs, Check books, Debit/Credit Cards, etc.) please speak with your financial institutions. There was an incident where a former resident's check was used by someone at a local store. When these buildings are demolished, they are not going to sift through the debri. Someone who's job it is to look for marks and steal will be lurking, no doubt.

Please share this with your friends and neighbors!!!

As former residents, numbering at over 300 people, we were displaced by the tornado on March 31, 2023. In the aftermath of that disaster, Calais Forest Apartments and their owners neglected to take immediate action before the second round of storms came through. Due to their negligence, the apartments that were damaged and exposed to the elements received further damage and ruin. Property management would not allow insurance adjustors in to do inspections. They wouldn't let residents accompany the FEMA inspectors to their units. They then had our vehicles towed, without warning, after barring residents from entering the property prior to this. A lot of cars were still in driving condition. After we, as residents, raised awareness on this issue over the following Easter holiday weekend, the tow companies involved were benevolent in allowing us to get our cars without charging residents any further expense. When Calais Forest agreed to refund any April rents paid along with our security deposits, they had us pick them up in person. When we got there, the sheriff was on site along with two other people we did not recognize. A caucasian woman with long dark hair stood over us to make sure we signed a document they slid in front of us or else we could not leave with our money. As I write this review, property management has gone in and removed their appliances from our units, specifically the refrigerators, as they said they were smelling too bad to leave them in the units. They still have not let the majority of us attempt to recover items and they plan to demolish buildings with our property still inside.

The poll closed yesterday asking how many people would be willing to join a class action lawsuit if they have signed the Termination agreement with Calais Forest Apartments. Not many people took the poll so I am wondering if the issue was that the poll was public. I can try to make a more private poll if people would prefer to do so. Just let me know.

From Property Management via text portal this morning: Please note all Rent Refunds should have been processed via a refund online or with your security Deposit check. If you didn't receive a refund for April rent that was paid, please let us know so that we can look into it and rectify this with a Rent Payment refund. If you transferred to another NPMA property your payment was transferred to that property. Thank you, Management
