The red poppy became a symbol of remembrance following World War I, inspired by the famous poem In Flanders Fields written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae after witnessing poppies growing across the battle-scarred fields where so many soldiers had fallen. The image of the bright red poppies standing tall amid devastation became a powerful symbol of sacrifice, hope, and remembrance.

In the years that followed, people began wearing red poppies to honor those who gave their lives in military service. The tradition was embraced throughout the United States and around the world as a way to remember and pay tribute to fallen heroes.

This Memorial Day, may we pause to remember, reflect, and express our deepest gratitude for those who gave their lives for our freedom. 🇺🇸❤️
