Dear God: we come before you in your majesty. We recognize your goodness and infinite blessing on our lives. Every good thing we have comes from you. These show your loving disposition toward us.

Sometimes we turn on screens, look at world events, and realize how fallen and sinful we are as people.

I can only imagine how we broke your heart as you looked at your creation, made in your image, and saw how callous and arrogant our actions were toward you.

We apologize for us as humans.

We saw blasphemy and wickedness on display at the opening ceremonies of the Olympic games this weekend as they mocked Jesus and the Lord’s Supper.

Shame on humans for such cavalier disrespect to the God of the universe who shared his Son with us.

We definitely deserve hell and condemnation. The very meal that the Olympics mocked is the meal of salvation and hope for humankind.

The bread is a physical reminder of the broken body of Jesus, and the cup, his innocent shed blood, spilled for the forgiveness of our sins.

Today, as Christians, we uphold this Table with great reverence and gratitude for Jesus and his sacrifice for the world.

You have covered our sin and repurposed us with a noble calling: to love you with all our hearts and to love our neighbors as ourselves.

We pray for ourselves to live up to this calling, and we pray for the redemption of a world that is hostile and hateful toward you and the things of you.

May the Gospel spread, and may hearts be opened to its message so that souls would see you in your true glory and come to know Jesus as Lord of their Lives.

May we remain strong and resilient reflecting your light. Give us fortitude against a culture that attacks you and belittles virtue.

Give us prudence and discipline in knowing how to live in and to respond to such a world as this.

May we not conform to the world or the things of this world, but let our minds be transformed in Jesus Christ, that we discern your will, which is good, acceptable and perfect (see Romans 12:2).

Blessed be the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We love you, revere you and are grateful to know you as the King of our hearts.
