September on Long Island is one of those perfect in-between seasons. The warmth of summer lingers, the crowds begin to ease, and the first hints of fall make it an especially beautiful time to explore.

On the North Shore, spend an afternoon in Oyster Bay, Huntington, Northport, or Port Jefferson, where historic streets, local restaurants and shops meet the waterfront. Enjoy the trails and scenery at Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve or Sunken Meadow, or head farther east to Greenport for a day along Peconic Bay. Farmers markets, arts events, outdoor performances, and seasonal gatherings also begin to fill the September calendar across Nassau and Suffolk.

It’s also a wonderful time to experience Long Island’s communities beyond a scheduled property showing. Spending an afternoon walking through a village, visiting local businesses, or exploring the waterfront can tell you so much about the character and lifestyle of an area.
