I always have to post wins when it comes to homeowners rights and taxation! I am excited to announce that the “parcel tax” that was trying to make the ballot in Long Beach FAILED to gather enough signatures and will not be on our ballot. If you weren’t aware, Long Beach was trying to add a “parcel tax” to properties in the city which is basically another property tax. It was based on the size of your home. If it had passed it would have increased property taxes for all homeowners under the “guise” of a parcel tax. As I have mentioned before, any increase like this would basically have been passed onto renters and would have also made purchasing a house even more unaffordable. Maybe people are finally starting to learn that higher taxes just makes everything more unaffordable. Maybe they should take the money they already have and think of ways to use it more wisely! It is called fiscal responsibility!

With city budget cuts appearing inevitable, a coalition including the firefighters' union and affordable housing advocates hoped to pass a ballot measure called "Block the Cuts and Build Long Beach."

After being held up, the Bi-Partisan heavily supported 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act became law at midnight. This is a huge step forward for helping people reach the American Dream of Homeownership. Proud of our advocacy work as REALTORS!

This just shows the power people have over how legislators vote or what happens to a bill. This bill was set to be voted on today but after thousands of calls, it was pulled! No increased transfer tax! This is a win for both homeowners and for buyers of homes in California. This bill will remain inactive for the foreseeable future! It is important to stay on top of this stuff. There is all kinds of things being passed at the state level that affect your income, your taxes, and your livelihood. Be aware of what these are and be a part of the solution.

If you live in California, I would urge you to call your Assemblyperson or Senator and ask they vote no on AB736. This would increase transfer taxes when selling a home by thousands. You think homes are expensive now, on an average home, taxes paid to the state would increase $26,000 based on the average median home price. You think homes are unaffordable now? Wait until this passes and then see how home prices increase even more to cover these taxes. Call and ask them to VOTE NO (I just did)!
