🌸 Confused about when to prune your hydrangeas? You’re not alone!

The secret is knowing which type you have:

🌿 Hydrangea macrophylla—the traditional mophead with large blue, pink or purple blooms—usually flowers on old wood. Those flower buds form the previous year, so pruning in fall or spring may remove next summer’s blooms. If it needs shaping, prune it shortly after flowering and before late summer. Otherwise, simply remove dead wood in spring.

🌿 Hydrangea paniculata—including Limelight, Quick Fire and other cone-shaped varieties—flowers on new wood. These can be pruned in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

An easy way to remember:

Mophead = be careful!
Panicle = prune in spring!

One important exception: some newer reblooming macrophylla varieties, such as Endless Summer, bloom on both old and new wood.

Before you reach for the pruners, know which hydrangea you’re growing—or you may accidentally cut off all those beautiful flowers! 🌸

Queen Anne’s Lace 🌿

Queen Anne’s lace is one of my favorite sights along New England roadsides. Its delicate, lacy flowers look like little white umbrellas and are wonderful for attracting bees, butterflies and other pollinators.

It’s actually a biennial wildflower in the carrot family—and if you gently crush the leaves or roots, they may even smell like carrots! Although parts of the plant are considered edible, Queen Anne’s lace has some extremely dangerous look-alikes, including poison hemlock, so it should never be gathered or eaten unless identified by a true expert.

Simple, beautiful and a lovely reminder that sometimes nature’s prettiest gardens grow all on their own. 🤍

This agreement explains the agent’s responsibilities, the length of the agreement, and how the brokerage will be compensated. These terms are negotiable and should be fully understood before you sign.
