I’m sure you’ve heard the term ‘Equity’ being used lately… and that’s because homeowners have accrued a lot of it with recent home price increases. But what exactly is equity?
Let’s break it down = let’s say a homeowner purchased their home for $300k and have a current mortgage balance of $150k. They go to sell their house for $850k. What is their equity?
It’s the amount they get for the sale of their home minus the amount they still owe on it. In this example, their equity is $850k - $150k = $700,000!!!
