Volusia County stands to lose nearly $93 million in property tax revenues, if voters approve a proposal for major reforms now headed to the November ballots.

If 60% of Florida voters approve them, the proposed cuts would decimate local government budgets as they currently stand.

Counties and cities would need to dramatically reshape their approach to providing many of the core public services residents expect, Volusia County Manager George Recktenwald said at this week’s council meeting.

Election Day is Nov. 3. The deadline to register to vote is July 20.

Read the full story to see what other county officials are saying about this proposed reform and how it would affect Volusia.

Today in Lakeland, I signed legislation to protect our citizens and communities from hyperscale data centers.

SB 484:
✔️ Ensures that local governments maintain the authority to reject data center development in their communities
✔️ Prevents data center costs from being passed on to consumers, including electricity costs
✔️ Protects Florida’s water resources from data center consumption

These are much-needed protections for taxpayers and our natural resources.
