BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! 📣

That is Saturday June 14th we are excited to invite you to an intimate event to celebrate a new partnership between The World Stage Performance Gallery, Liberty Community Land Trust and Downtown Crenshaw Rising.

For decades The World Stage has been the leading force in cultivating local talent, which can be seen and heard across this country and indeed the world. We are excited to partner with them to help continue their esteemed legacy and train the next generation of artists committed to justice, as we work together to build out their future home on Liberty Community Land Trust land.

At a time when the authoritarian federal government is trying to silence critics, terrorize the most vulnerable, remove our contributions from society, ban books from Black authors, and occupy our streets with a heavy military presence, we want to be in community with you to celebrate our support for Black arts and each other.

There is a lot of good trouble happening in Los Angeles this weekend, and we encourage you to participate and exercise your first amendment rights. We hope you will protest in the morning and party with us in the afternoon.

Ujamaa 🌿 “To build and maintain our own stores, shops, and other businesses and to profit from them together.”

Throughout 2022, Downtown Crenshaw and Liberty Community Land Trust worked diligently to ensure the principle of Ujamaa stayed at the center of all we did for our community. Whether it was purchasing land to build 100% affordable housing, buying commercial properties to help maintain the legacies of black owned businesses, obtaining single family homes to house the most vulnerable, or creating cooperative spaces, we wanted to see the community benefit from our practice of Ujamaa.

We made it our mission to sustain our Black presence in Crenshaw through cooperative economics.

Join us tonight, December 29th at 6:00PM for our annual Kwanzaa Celebration where we’ll celebrate the work of Liberty Ecosystem in light of Ujamaa!

Let’s celebrate together!

WE’RE THE VOICES. WE’RE THE LEADERS.
Sociocracy is a concept that suggests the best decisions are made when everyone’s voice is heard. As a result, organizations and movements can make inclusive decisions, save time, and create more human organizations. It also serves as a decision making model and governance model that’s in line with the ethos of the cooperative identity, which honors and centers the human individual within the organization.

Join us November 4th-6th as Shala Massey, Sociocracy for All trainer, helps us to better understand sociocracy principles and practices in a community-centered space!

IMPORTANT: L.A.'s SECTION 8 WAITLIST OPEN UNTIL OCT 30

For the first time in 5 years, the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) is opening up the Section 8 waitlist. It will only be open until October 30, 2022 at 5pm.

As we work to build and maintain housing in our community that long-time residents can afford, Section 8 is a critical financing tool. Many of our units will be made available to rent (and hopefully to purchase) to Section 8 voucher holders.
Most members and families in our community will qualify for Section 8, especially those who are the greatest risk of displacement from rising rents.

SIGN UP TO GET IN THE SECTION 8 LOTTERY NOW at https://hacla.hcvlist.org AND SPREAD THE WORD
