There are seasons
when we walk beside life
as if beside a wild being
never to be forced,
only understood.

We once demanded clarity,
straight roads,
visible destinations.
But life teaches us
that the most meaningful things
appear only
when we learn to slow down.

Maturity doesn’t erase our dreams;
it teaches us
which dreams
are worth protecting
with silence.

Some choices are invisible
unnoticed,
unpraised,
yet they keep us
from losing ourselves.

We no longer need to defeat anyone,
only to make sure
each day
we do not betray
the values that raised us.

And if the path must be walked alone,
we walk with a steady spine,
because true freedom
is knowing
where you are going
without needing to be led.

A warrior is not a soldier, who follows blindly and attacks when ordered. Being a warrior isn't just about fighting, it's more about protecting. A warrior learns to think for themself, and fight as a last resort. Stand your ground when needed, but always share kindness when possible. A warrior is not a follower, but he will fight with you in your battles. A warrior listens and learns from all spirits, seen and unseen. They honor everything on the earth, with complete respect for rivers, and the air we breathe. A warrior never begs or gives into despair. All of mankind are equal in his eyes. He will protect the weakest and learn from all they meet. A warrior doesn't judge other men, that is the job of the Great Spirit. But he never tolerants disrespect.

DAUGHTERS of Cheyenne Chief American Horse, 1901. American Horse’s family lived in a tepee in the Lame Deer Hills about 100 miles east of Billings, Montana. Historian O.D. Wheeler, accompanied by photographer L.A. Huffman, interviewed Native warriors who had fought at the 1876 Battle of the Little Bighorn.L.A. Huffman made fantastic captures that avoided the formalism of “stand still and face the camera.” His portraits of Native Americans rank among the finest in history. Many of Huffman’s best captures were of men working on the open range without posing. This was rare, almost unique, among early photographers when bulky cameras required a tripod for support. .
